The Institute for Young Women Development (IYWD) is a grassroots feminist organization in Zimbabwe. Our mission is to build the power and agency of young women to lead social, political, and economic change from the ground up, ensuring they have the voice and capacity to challenge inequality and shape their own futures.
Young women in the areas we serve can join by participating in our local "Dariro" committees, which are community-based leadership circles and the heart of our movement. We also have open calls for our Feminist Leadership Schools and business bootcamps. The best way to get involved is to contact us directly via email or phone to connect with the team in your district.
IYWD has a strong presence in nine of Zimbabwe's ten provinces, including Mashonaland Central, East, and West, Manicaland, Masvingo, Midlands, and Matabeleland North and South. We operate in over 50 specific rural districts, mining towns, and farming communities, ensuring our work reaches those who need it most.
Financial contributions are vital and can be made through the "Donate" button on our website. Your support directly funds our leadership schools, business start-up kits for women entrepreneurs, and advocacy campaigns. We also welcome institutional partnerships and in-kind support from professionals. Please contact us to discuss how we can collaborate to empower young women.
For us, Feminist Leadership is more than just placing women in positions of power. It's a transformative approach centered on challenging oppressive systems like patriarchy, promoting social justice, and ensuring inclusivity. It emphasizes collective power and accountability to create a more just and equitable society for everyone, not just for the advancement of a few individuals.
